Media Release – Music Industry
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MUSICIANS TAKE OVER THE BUSINESS: IAM MUSIC
Toronto, On, February 1st 2008 – After a year spent on research & development, IAM Music announces the launch of their new label project and reveals its initial line up of signed artists.
Using a sponsorship and advertising based model, IAM Music is uniting independent emerging artists with established brands through corporate partnerships that generate funds for project financing and development.
Through its extensive digital distribution network, IAM Music has a reach of over 100 million on-line visitors daily.
Industry response has been tremendous with artists and industry insiders hailing the innovation as a breath of fresh air for the entire industry.
“I can’t count the number of talented artist struggling to make ends meet while producing great music,” says Thomas Mathers, co-founder and CEO of IAM Music. “They end up indebted to labels and don’t always retain artistic control. It’s demoralizing and definitely not the best conditions for creating art. Most quit after two years, broke and disillusioned. It’s kind of like clear cutting an ancient forest. You’re never really able to fully calculate the loss because original species are lost forever.”
Corporate response is encouraging with executives from the fashion sector, the lucrative beverage sector, the travel industry and sports manufacturers eager for social marketing opportunities that offer win-win opportunities.
“You can’t throw ads in print publications these days and expect to build brand awareness and loyalty. You’ve got to offer meaningful messages and engaging experiences. You’ve also got to integrate into core customer values and cultural realities to be relevant,” says advertising expert Joe Kazinsky of Level 9 Advertising Agency.
“You need to let audiences know that your product offers a unique experience. The best way to do that is to create a unique experience for them. Music does that better than anything out there, whether it’s jazz, alternative, pop or rock.”
A musician himself, Mathers likes the idea of artistic control and wide distribution.
“Music, or any art, requires focus, but it’s hard to focus when you can’t pay the rent. There are thousands of companies looking for one to one connections with customers. If artists have frontline relationships with these companies, exciting projects get off the ground, the pain goes away,” says Mathers. “IAM Music represents a new idea, an alternative platform for brand exposure and artistic development. We offer everything a traditional label offers, financing, distribution, sales and promotion, but with one big difference. Artists retain complete artistic control and ownership of their work. We’ve signed dozens of bands so far and we’re pairing them with appropriate brands as we speak. We think our model can turn the industry on its head. At the very least it’sgong to turn the tide for some very talented artists who otherwise may not make it.”
If the model lives up to its potential, it’s looking like artists will have to find another source of pain to pour into their work.

PR - 'Expert Development Program'
Business Analyst & Solutions Architect, Amos Adler, M. Sc
As a business analyst and business solutions architect, Amos Adler, founder and president of Enterprising Vision, has more than a little experience creating next generation technology solutions.
With a M.Sc in analysis design and management of information systems from the London School of Economics, Amos is part of a new generation of entrepreneurs applying creative solutions to intractable business problems.
· In 1998 he launched the world’s first independent exchange for wholesale telecom capacity at Band-X, a U.K. based managed voice services company for telecom service providers.
· In 1999 he introduced CATWOE and soft systems analysis into enterprise system design project lifecycles at Bell Canada.
· In 2000 he developed and delivered a business plan to BCE executives for the spin-off of non-core OSS business units and assets.
· In 2001 he lead a team of 10 senior systems analysts from Bell Canada, Bell Mobility, Bell Actimedia and CGI to successfully deliver a next generation cross platform (Wireline, Wireless, Data, Wholesale) converged billing and CRM object oriented/UML architecture roadmap.
· Also at Bell, he developed a converged telecom based IVR system from concept and architecture to build, implementation and launch.
· In 2002 he translated his expertise in voice portal business systems analysis to IVR consulting, strategic business planning and business case design for speech recognition, text-to-speech and VXML integration.
That same year, a research initiative into technology trends in the health sector lead to the identification of specific business problems which were not being addressed by current models.
Amos immediately recognized the potential application of IVR technologies in this sector and founded MemoText®, a healthcare application service provider specialized in medication adherence and compliance.
From his work with CATWOE, Amos began to understand the human and environmental dimensions of solution design, recognizing that multi-layered problems require multi-layered solutions. As he investigated further, it was clear that medication adherence was one of those problems. Today Amos is a leading proponent of cross disciplinary approaches to adherence solutions.
At the root of medication non-compliance / adherence issues is the complex field of human behavior modification, which, at minimum, requires support and education for success, elements not always sustainable in healthcare provider relationships.
With over 60% of North Americans diagnosed with a chronic disease or condition of one type or another and the baby boom generation moving quickly into their retirement years, medication compliance is poised to become one of the most serious health challenges in modern times.
MEMOTEXT technology has the potential to remediate the pain of unhealthy aging and provide a new framework for health care service delivery.
Countless resources, studies, panels, reports and articles have done little more than conclude, “Houston, we have a problem.” MEMOTEXT innovation and leadership in personalized adherence solutions is about to change all that.

Shades of truth – Canadian Memoir Writing Expert Understands the Slippery Slope
The whole truth, a little embellishment, a little fiction, creative interpretation, where is the line in autobiography?
There is much talk in recent months about ‘truth telling’ in biography circles as author James Frey well knows. His ‘A Million Little Pieces’ novel stimulated heated debate as the prickly subject of historical accuracy reared it’s ugly little head.
Teacher, academic and historian Gayle Dzis has a very clear understanding of truth issues in personal life history storytelling. She’s been teaching memoir writing in Toronto for over 15 years.
Dzis explains. “What people fail to understand is that autobiography covers at least six disciplines - history, literature, religion, psychology, sociology, gerontology and each discipline has its own literary criteria. For example, historical biography/autobiography requires historical accuracy, biography as literature dictates that it be a good read. In the psychology realm, publishers are looking for material that exposes motivation and character with an inward looking approach. Religion markets traditionally explore the authors spiritual journey and gerontology is focused on illuminating the wisdoms of your life.
“Distinctions need to be made if we’re going to have meaningful discussion around these issues,” Dzis contends. “Writing your personal life story is something you do for yourself, not to please an audience. You desire to bear witness to your life, perhaps create a family legacy by capturing and recording events and experiences. However, if you want to write a story with your life as the central theme, then you can fictionalize as the story requires. Truth telling becomes optional.”
The Life of Pi. Is it true? What parts? We’ll never know for certain where truth and creative license meet. In literature, artistic vision drives the story and truth is used strategically to carry the story forward effectively.
Of the many possible approaches, Dzis focuses on historical accuracy. An expert in her field, Dzis has become a master at sensitively guiding participants through initial considerations: Can I write well enough? How long will it take? How much do I want to tell? What if I have secrets? She also helps them decide how to tell the story. Depending on the audience and purpose of the story, it can be told as a narrative, an historical record, as confession or an expose.
Through corporate and private workshops this lively, accomplished woman has helped Torontonians from all walks of life record the fascinating stories of their lives. Most clients are retired, but not all.
“Each of us has the ability to write our personal life story. Without the need to sell to mass audiences, writers are free to tell the truth in their own voices. I tell clients, “If you can write a grocery list, you can write your life story.”
Workshops series are divided into four sessions, each focused on a specific life period from childhood to present day. Gayle’s enthusiasm, patience and practical approach encourages clients who need support through what can be an intense process.
Gayle’s credentials as a teacher and historian instill confidence in clients and has enabled her business to grow largely on the strength of her reputation. “I have a passion for history and was never happy about the fact that ordinary folk are mostly omitted from history. People’s reactions to events and the world around them is unique, each story weaves colourful new threads through the rich tapestry that is human life.”
“We have a choice. We can let time decide or we can tell our own stories ‘before the lone and level sands stretch far away’.” (Shelley)
